The improved 5 L mixing cloud chamber (BIGG cloud chamber) was used to measure the atmospheric ice nuclei (IN) at Gutian station and Shitashan station from May to June in 2017, for analyzing the characteristics of IN in Gutian artificial precipitation enhancement experimental area of Fujian Province. The distributions, differences and sources of IN at different altitudes were analyzed in this paper, even about the correlation between IN characteristics and meteorological conditions. The results are shown as follows: (1) The concentration of IN was obviously affected by rain erosion when rainfall intensity was higher than 5 mm·h-1. (2) At diffetent activation temperatures, the mean values of IN concentration measured at afternoon were mainly larger than those measured at morning both in these two stations. (3) At Gutian station, the variation of IN concentration had positive correlation with air temperature and negative correlation with air pressure, but the others had not been associated with it. (4) The concentration of IN transported from southwest was higher than that from the east orientation of Taiwan Strait, and from the same source it was slightly higher at low altitude than that at high altitude. (5) Compared with other observations in China, the concentration of IN in Gutian area was higher when the activation temperature was between -20 and -10 ℃ and it was lower when the activation temperature was between -30 and -25 ℃. (6) At -10 ℃, concentration of IN was extremely low. Therefore, it was reasonable using cold cloud seeding in Gutian area for artificial precipitation enhancement.
